Today we were planning to have a family walk. Alas our trip into London for a friends party, used up what little energy we had left from a hectic start to a new term. Anyway on our walk we had the intention of gathering sticks for kindling. This idea was greeted with much enthusiasm as our girls love collecting sticks, leaves, feathers and flowers when outdoors. In the light of having no sticks today, I remembered this post about stick men by Savannah Miller for Vogue Online.

One day...

During May around the Brighton area, we have Artist Open House day's...I really do try to pop in. Each year I vow to make the most of having this opportunity on our doorstep and end up grabbing the last hour or two before it finishes. I get so inspired and then look for things in my messy room, or save things, buy things in the hope that I would effortlessly throw together a work of art! It never happens....One of the Artists showing this month is the wonderful Simon Royer...I am completely drawn to his work, in particular the fish series. If we had the wall space, this would warrant a super hint to my husband for a forthcoming birthday gift!

Where dreams are made

Dreams of floating through moonlit streets, over seas and other islands, and wearing candy coloured fluffy full length dresses - I remember being introduced to the work of artist Marc Chagall as a teenager. Today I am wondering what he would make of the fast growing world of illustration. As a teenager, I loved the distant places that Chagall took me to. His paintings allowed the mystery of love to be alive and I was fascinated by the haunting depth of the colour blue. Then imagine my joy at finding illustrator Lisa Evans. One of her characters, Brigg, reminded me of my days growing up in inner-city London and looking out on the world from my mum's first floor flat. I love her....! Seriously, I feel like her work is the stuff that dreams are made of. Find out more about Lisa at http://firefluff.blogspot.com/ps. currently listening to Leona Naess, Thirteens...very Sunday morning!!!
